AG’S TITLE CHASE KEPT ON TRACK BY NATIONAL SURGICAL
19-05-2010
A few days out from Round 3 of the Genuine Ford Parts Formula Ford Championship held at Winton Motor Raceway last weekend – It looked as if the man sitting third in the title chase might not even make the grid.

Luckily, Adam Graham was thrown a life-line at the eleventh hour by National Surgical CEO, and fellow Formula Ford racer Jon Mills. The last minute sponsorship deal allowed Adam to race his #6 Evans Motorsport Mygale at Winton, and keep in touch with new series leader Chaz Mostert.

Adam was happy just to be at Winton, and despite enduring a tough round at the circuit that notoriously suits the Spectrum chassis, he is still well within striking range of the championship as the series heads to the halfway point in Darwin.

Adam was extremely thankful for the last minute sponsorship deal from National Surgical and Jon Mills: “In the week leading up to Winton it looked like we were out of budget and might not be able to race. Luckily, Jon Mills threw me a life-line through his company ‘National Surgical’ and I was able to compete. I really have to thank him, because if I hadn’t raced, our championship would have been over” said Graham.

He added: “It’s not just Jon however, the boys at Evans Motorsport have worked really hard to keep me going too, so thanks to them as well”.

Adam endured a tough round at Winton, finishing 6th for the round, after he was initially hoping to continue his podium-finishing form from Queensland Raceway.

“We knew this round would be tough, but not that tough. I guess in hindsight it could have been worse – I could have had a weekend like (teammate) Borell” said the Lismore driver.

When quizzed on the problem, Adam sighted rear grip as the problem over the weekend: “We just had no grip at all, the car felt terrible and got worse as the rubber went down. The boys worked really hard to fix it, we tried everything. It got a bit better in the final race and we did the second fastest lap-time – but it was a little too late”.

The next round of the championship will be held in a month’s time at Hidden Valley Raceway in Darwin from June 18-20. You can catch all the highlights from Round 2 and 3 on new digital channel ‘7TWO’ on May 29 at 2:30pm. Check your local guides for confirmation.
