FOSTER TAKES BREAKTHROUGH WIN
02-05-2010
Nick Foster has produced an amazing comeback drive to secure victory in Round 2 of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship at Queensland Raceway today.

The Steeline Mygale driver put a disappointing Race 1 behind him to charge back through the field, winning Races 2 and 3.

Foster also took the championship lead, as his fellow title contenders experienced dramas throughout the weekend.

Series debutant Ben Jurczak finished a standout second for the round after just four Formula Ford races, ahead of third place finisher Adam Graham. But it was Foster who took the spoils on an interesting weekend in the Sunshine State.

“It’s great to be able to come back from the disappointment of yesterday to end the weekend like this,” an elated Foster said.

“We knew we had the car pace, so it was just a matter of getting into the right groove and pressing on.

“The Steeline Mygale has been top notch all weekend so now we can head to Winton with some handy championship points.”

Second place finisher Jurczak was clearly ecstatic with the result in just his second full meeting. The Queenslander ran strongly within the top five all weekend and captalised on others drivers’ issues in races two and three to take a fine second for the round.

“I’m absolutely shocked with the result, it’s just amazing,” Jurczak said.

“I would have been wrapped with a top 10 this weekend, so to walk away with a podium result is something I never could have dreamed of.

“It was great to be able to run with the front guys and it really gave me a good idea of what Formula Ford is about in what is a learning year for me.”

Mygale pilot Graham completed the Spectrum sandwich with third after a good recovery from an incident with Ryan Simpson in Race 2.

“To be honest it’s probably slightly disappointing because we know that we could have done better this weekend had it not been for a disappointing Race 2,” Graham said.

“Despite the incident we are still able to take away some good championship points from the round, which I’m sure will be important later in the year.”

Geoff Uhrhane finished fourth for the round, following a retirement in Race 3, ahead of a recovering Chaz Mostert, who was involved in an incident in Race 2.

Andre Borell was sixth, with Simpson, Nathan Morcom, Ash Walsh and Tom Williamson rounding out the top 10.

The EWP Hard Charger award went to Andrew McFarland.

The Kangan Motorsport Training Award went to CAMS Rising Star Jack LeBrocq.

Round 3 of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship will take place at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria on May 14-16.
