Australian Formula Ford has enjoyed the continuous support of Ford Australia for almost 40 years, one of the longest associations in Australian motorsport. The ongoing partnership was strengthened in 2006 with Ford’s renewed five year commitment for the future of Formula Ford in Australia.

Former Ford Australia President, Tom Gorman, in announcing the extended support, noted “Ford is delighted to extend our commitment to national Formula Ford, which has been an intrinsic part of our racing program globally for more than 35 years”.

The introduction of the Ford Fiesta engine to national competition in 2006 marked a major update for the category and strengthened the link to the Ford product range through the Ford Fiesta road car.

Formula Ford is now the premier open wheeler racing category in this country, it’s where Ford’s V8 Supercar drivers learn their craft and Ford Australia’s support will ensure that the talent development process continues.

In 2008 Genuine Ford Parts was welcomed as the naming rights sponsor of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship for the next three years.

Bruce McDonald, Vice President, Ford Customer Service Division, announcing the support package, said “We believe the Australian Formula Ford Championship provides Ford with a great platform to promote the benefits of Genuine Ford Parts to a broad audience.

“Formula Ford plays a major role in the development of up and coming Australian motor racing drivers and with more than half of the current V8 Supercar field and the like of Formula 1 driver Mark Webber having competed in the category, it’s not hard to see how successful it has been”.

The three year deal further stabilizes the category and will assist with funding ongoing television arrangements with the Seven Network.

Performance Alloy Wheels, a South Australian based company, was appointed as the control wheel supplier to the category at the beginning of 2007.

The control wheels are all Australian made and are distributed through a nation-wide dealer network. Funds derived from these arrangements are used to assist in the ongoing development and strength of the category.

Australian Formula Ford competitors are required to use Ferodo brake pads during competition, sourced through the Australian distributor, Competition Friction Pty Ltd, based in Canberra.

The support of Competition Friction provides funding to assist competitors in their racing.
